Summary
They got caught up in the moment, Eddie just cradling Steve’s face as he placed soft kisses on the other’s lips. They were so caught up, that they didn’t hear the footsteps walking down the stairs.
Eddie heard a loud gasp of surprise from behind him, and threw himself off of Steve when he’d realized they’d been caught. He turned to see Dustin of all people standing at the foot of the stairway, covering his eyes like he’d just seen something horrific.
“Sorry, just needed my, uh, my bag. Forgot it down here. I’ll just grab it tomorrow, it’s fine.” The kid turned to run up the stairs, but still apparently had his eyes covered as he ran into the railing and stumbled.
OR: the one where Dustin finds out about Eddie and Steve on accident.

“I’m not perfect, okay? I’ve never claimed to be, but I try,” His voice broke, left in shambles as he continued. “I try so hard. I have given everyone everything they’ve ever asked of me and I never complained; not really! I could’ve left this town years ago and never looked back, but I didn’t. I stayed because I care about those kids, about Nancy and Robin and you.”
“Steve,” Eddie started, “I didn’t-”
“You didn’t what? Notice? Care? Nobody does!” Steve said, throwing his hands up, “I mean, do you how long it’s been since someone said they loved me? Even my parents can’t be bothered to say that shit! I have been waiting years for someone to notice that I"ve changed! That after everything I’ve been through, I’m still here! I’m not some idiot who peaked in high school!”
Caught in the insufferable silence, all he could do was cry.

Or Eddie thinks Steve's confession is a joke, and Steve realizes that nobody really thinks he's changed.
