Gotham City is unfixable, the kind of unfixable that grinds people down to dust and grit and spits them back out with a bloody grin, the kind of unfixable that rapes women and kills children and leaves innocents starving in slums and bleeding out in back alleys. It is ugly right down to its bones, and Selina worked her whole damn life to get herself out.
And yet she still keeps coming back.

Summary
Four months after the flooding of Gotham, Selina reluctantly returns to the city when she and a friend are hired as escorts by a recently dumped Kate Kane. While attending a charity gala at the Wayne Tower as the heiress' arm candy, Selina is introduced to Bruce - who seems oddly familiar. Selina has no explanation for the tension between them, torn between attraction and self-preservation, until another reunion gives Bruce's true identity away.

Summary
Lydia doesn't believe in fairytales. She believes in science, and, scientifically, her brain believes that Jackson is attractive so it releases more dopamine than it normally does when she looks at him and that is what being in love is like. Their relationship is mutually beneficial and makes sense and if she closes her eyes and plugs her nose, she can forget that it's passionless.
