On October 31, 1981, Lord Voldemort attacked the Potter home in an effort to kill the Potter twins and fulfill the prophecy. Miraculously, Jack Potter defeated the Dark Lord, weathering the encounter with nothing to show for it but a pale scar. Lily and James also survived their grievous injuries but Jack's twin brother, Harry, was not so lucky; he was the only Potter to lose his life.
The death of their son was devastating enough...but hours later, his body was stolen from the morgue at St Mungo's. No one knows what happened or why his corpse was taken.
Ten years later, Albus Dumbledore descends upon the Potter manor with a Hogwarts acceptance letter in his hand. The address reads:
