    Ilya, the 26-year-old, burnt out CV stepdown nurse never imagined that it would be an orientee that tripped him up. He precepted numerous nurses, never getting too close to any of them aside from mentorship. He didn’t make friends. But, when he is assigned to orient a brand-new grad with beautiful freckles to the crushing world of nursing, he can’t help but think things might just get interesting for once.

    Shane, 22 years old and chomping at the bit to get to CRNA school, falls short on getting a CVICU position. He ends ends up taking a job on CV stepdown at Boston General Hospital. For the first time, he is challenged beyond belief. He is alone, knows nobody in Boston, and is there only to meet a goal that he realizes he is so far away from achieving. But, when he lays eyes on his preceptor, he realizes he has a bigger problem on his hands.

    Ilya pushes Shane harder than he’s ever been pushed, and Shane inserts himself into Ilya’s orbit in a way nobody else had ever dared to. An undeniable chemistry drives them insane as they move through Shane’s twelve-week orientation and come to terms with their feelings, under the radar.

    “You want to talk to people about me?” Shane asked quietly.

    There was something small and confused in the question. But Ilya was still furious and raw.

    “Well I would,” he sneered, “if there was anything about you that was fucking interesting to talk about! It would be nice to not be so fucking bored and miserable!”

    The second the words left his mouth, he watched the pain roll across Shane's features like a thousand fractures shattering through glass.

    Ilya had seen Shane nearly break ribs. He had seen him miss game-winning shots, take hits that left bruises blooming purple and black across his skin. He had never seen this.

    Shane closed his eyes for a long moment. He shook his head slightly, a tiny movement, then nodded once as if agreeing with something only he could hear. His face twisted briefly with a fresh wave of pain before he forced it to still.

    What if Shane and Ilya don't make up so easily after the Boxing Day fight? The Centaur's plane never malfunctions, so Shane never proposes. Instead, Ilya gives him an ultimatum on coming out and going public. It backfires spectacularly.
