    “It’s me,” said Legolas, as if Gimli would not be able to recognize him even blind, deaf, and probably with a concussion too.

    The elf stepped into the moonlight, allowing the soft glow to illuminate his features, so achingly beautiful that for a moment Gimli thought maybe he still had a few tears left to cry after all. Legolas moved closer, the wrap of food held out like a truce, and a gentle smile played on his lips.
