It’s dark and eerily quiet and tell-tale signs of panic start to rear their ugly heads.
My leg. Fuck that hurts, why does it hurt so badly, it didn’t hurt a second ago fuck I can’t breathe I need more air I can’t breathe -
“Hey, no, please don’t breathe so fast, slow down, please, don’t panic! Stay with me, please! Please! Everything will be alright, I promise, but first, breathe with me, please!”
Easy to say for someone who isn’t lying - fuck, where am I? Heaven? No, that would be bright, wouldn’t it? It’s pitch-black where I am now. Who’s talking to me? I can’t breathe.
“In…. and out, slowly, in… and out, yes, exactly like this. In… and out. In… and out.”
This voice is nice and warm, it’s calming. I’m alive, apparently.

Here's the thing: soulmates are rare—really rare. Only people with rosemarks even have soulmates, and rosemarks aren't exactly common, are they? It makes sense that there would be so much misinformation out there about what happens in between getting your rosemark and figuring out who your soulmate actually is.
And there's no way Charlie Spring is Nick's soulmate. There's just no way—not when he's the reason Nick's got Hanahaki Disease and is coughing up petals.
