Summary
John's been an Agent since he was ten. The past nearly ninety years have been nearly the same: train, avoid chores, listen to Agent 1 (the creator of the Agency) drone on and on about her missing son, the fabled 'Agent 7' who seemingly disappeared shortly before John had been plucked from his home, train, be lonely and watch all the new Agents come through, bond and find their elemental Scale while he's never been able to. Then, the unthinkable happens. He makes a friend. A friend, who leads to more friends, that leads to a potential way out of this hellhole.

Summary
"You shouldn't have come here," a male voice came from behind him.
Smitty quickly spun around, hand on his revolver. A man stood at the foot of the staircase, looking up at Smitty from within the circle of the window's light. He was deathly pale. The gray shine from the dark storm outside made him appear ghostly white—lifelessly white.
A vampire.
Smitty didn't remove his hand from his revolver. "Are you the one who lives here?"
"I am," the man said. "And you have made a fatal mistake coming here."

Summary

He plans to use the human crew as cover for himself while he learns what he can about the human world. He wanted him, whether it was in friendship or as a partner or sexually. John wanted Jaren the same way the tides need the moon, or a car needs gas, or the stars need the night sky. Like one couldn’t exist without the other.
