Summary
It has been one hundred days since the Emperor of Li died.
The mourning period is over, the Moon Prince is now the Emperor, and Maomao, the eldest daughter of the La Clan, is set to become the Pure Consort.
Maomao never thought she'd become a member of the Inner Court, let alone become one of the High Consorts. Her dream was to be an apothecary, like her beloved great-uncle, the man who's taught her all about poisons and medicine. But when the Imperial Decree comes, she and her family can't say no.
Maomao moves into the Garnet Pavilion and soon becomes enmeshed in the political intrigue that is the Inner Court. As the new Emperor visits her more and more often, she finds herself holding more and more power. But when she overhears a rumor, she becomes determined to solve the mystery, which might put everything she's built at stake. And when she looks in the Emperor's eyes, she can't help but fall into their depths. Head and heart at war, Maomao is faced with two questions:
Could the Emperor really be a murderer? And if so, what will she do?
