She took in the sight of Grace and Katya lying tangled up in Grace’s bed, Katya’s leg sticking out over the edge, Grace’s head resting on Katya’s chest, The Golden Compass still in Katya’s hand, both of them fast asleep. She kept standing there, looking for longer than she should have. She took a picture too, but it was blurry because of the dark and you wouldn’t be able to make out what the picture was of, unless you already knew. She kept it, anyway.
Or Trixie leaves home at 18 with her baby sister, at 21 Katya moves in next door and somewhere along the way they fall in love.

It was like seeing cracks between the very strands of the universe and in those cracks she saw a world so similar and yet so different from her own, like a mirror image of sorts.She should probably have turned back, should have pulled her arm back the second she saw it disappear, but instead she took a leap forward, straight into the glowing abyss.
