Reeling back the retort, sitting on the tip of his tongue, the knight forced himself to snort with derision. "Why would I be? I destroyed the nexo knights, remember?"
"So you keep saying," Garg said, his eyes a pair of burning embers amidst the dark expense of his face, "but for a monster of your caliber, you cling to your previous titles with a strange fixation."
The nexo knight had to bite the inside of his cheek so as not to react outwardly. The lack of pain - of feeling - didn't help his predicament. Then Garg's words registered in his mind. "A monster of... my caliber?"
Ingrid cocked her head, pushing Baltic, who had long since given up on being a part of the conversation, out of her way. "You don't know?"
Clay's stint undercover takes a day longer. This changes a few things.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.
It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.
Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.

Summary

Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly.

Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard.
“Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff.
“Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him.
“You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.”
Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that.
The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.
