The skin around Phantom’s eyes are sunken, black and a sickly yellow like iridescent bruises, the toxic green iris that had cut through the dark like a forgotten nightmare looks glaze over and dull. “And sure, whatever. We don’t get tired. Whatever facts help you sleep at night. After all, I’m only a ghost myself, what do I know?”
The fact that this was said with defeat rather than bitterness stuns Jack, the ‘blundering, blubbering giant’ to silence.
“You know, I’m always confused about you and Maddie on one thing,” Phantom’s face settled to unnerving blankness: “are you scientists or hunters?”

Per Ember's suggestion, he decides to try and hang out with Technus some more, and unexpectedly learns all at once EXACTLY how he feels about Technus. Unfortunately, it's at the same time they're fighting the ghost boy, and he and his friends also catch wind of what's going on. Hoping to disrupt their enemies' flow, they decide to play matchmaker, and Skulker is forced to confront exactly why those butterflies won't get the hell out of his system.
