Joshua's life has never been normal, living in the Den of the Undying for 7 summers as they struggle to find scraps of Ultima's plan. That would be the least of their worries though when the Phoenix goes into heat unexpectedly, crying for a mate. Joshua's life hangs in the balance, his body unable to take the heat for long, unless they find a politically neutral or supportive Dominant to Mate him. One that miiight be hiden in the Imperial forces if the reports are true.

Clive Rosfield wears many hats these days after his honorable discharge from the Army: face of a charity supporting equine therapy for veterans, moral support for his CEO brother, and now, member of USA Olympics' eventing team, arriving in Los Angeles to compete. But competition isn't all he finds in the city of angels; his childhood friend (and crush) Jill Warrick is competing too. Not only are Clive's Olympic dreams on the line, but so are the dreams he's harbored since the last time he saw Jill, even though he doesn't feel at all worthy of her. Gold isn't all he's hopeful for now.

Somewhat canon compliant fic following Joshua as he comes to terms with his feelings for Clive first as a child, and then as an adult, unsure of how Clive might feel about him. Self-doubt plays into his feelings and they grow with him as time passes, following closely with the events of the game.
