Louis, not long after killing Bruce and his coven, is sent back in time by a witch to Auvergne where he gets to see Lestat, as he was before he was turned. Human, not yet burdened by the dark gift. He should focus on finding a way home, but how can he focus on anything other than his lover, innocent as he has ever seen him be? And so when Lestat makes for Paris, what else can Louis do but follow?

He’s not human anymore, but there in his chest lingers that little wriggling worm of doubt, whispering to him in the quiet moments: What do you think will happen if you go down this road? Nothing good comes from courting the devil.

Summary
After all, poor Lestat, vomiting his guts up and nodding off sitting down. Poor Lestat, who can’t seem to keep the blood in his system with how often he needs to use the restroom. Poor Lestat, who can’t stomach his usual victims and has to go looking for something to satisfy the urge. Poor Lestat, who has no idea what’s going on.
Poor Lestat. Poor sad, broken Lestat. How could they possibly stay angry at him, when he’s suffering and he has no idea why? That would just be cruel.
And this would make them angry, because they believe him to be a being with enough power to make himself suffer to earn their love. They think him pathetic enough.
He doesn’t even realise he’s crying until the blood drops land on the toe of his shoe.
He can keep it to himself for now. It’s just about him. It’s his business.
If things change or worsen, he’ll tell them.
He swears.

Lestat's body is changing for the first time since the day he died, and he has no idea why. All he knows is that until he can learn more, he cannot tell Louis and Claudia, not wanting to rock the boat after just being welcomed home after six years seperated. This goes wrong. Marius taps his chin, staring at him intently. "What is it that you wish for, Lestat?” he finally asks. “You want… revenge?”
"I want him dealt with," he instantly spells out, as if talking to a child. "He is your fledgling. Your responsibility. So… deal with him."
"Deal with him," Marius repeats slowly, nodding thoughtfully. "As in...?"
"Oh, spare me," Lestat’s face twists impatiently. "I couldn't care less what you do. As long as he's out of my way. And my fledgling's."

After what he and Louis went through in the hands of Armand, Lestat asks Marius to deal with his fledgling. But what Marius has in mind is far from what Lestat meant. Very, very far.
