Summary
Spent goddamn hours of his life drilling DOPE sheets.
Stomach on the ground and his cheek pressed against his rifle for so long it left indents. Had to carry sticky-notes and pencils for angle measurements like he was in highschool again, but he was sticking calculations to the stock of his rifle instead of crumpling up papers and tossing them into bins across class.
Comes down to the gut, though. Past maybe eight, nine hundred yards, flat on the sand with shit else but the moon for light, a moving target that uses civilians as a shield, that’s when it’s real. Can’t just look at things, gotta start seeing them. Reading them.
Wind patterns from the plastic bag floating across the street. Twitch of a man’s fingers tells you what he’s gonna do before he pulls the trigger or puts the piece down. The veins under her pale skin through his crosshairs, all blue under the streetlights.
