Summary

All things considered, Edelgard Hresvelg lived an ordinary life. She worked as an artist and avoided her vastly overextended family as much as possible, happy in her solitary life in the city of Enbarr. Still, she wasn’t immune to loneliness, and so she went out from time to time to be around others.
She couldn’t have imagined what she would get into when she met Byleth Eisner, a woman with a ridiculous coat studying to be a teacher of history. History, and the folklore of Nabatea, its goddess, and the wolves she loved most dearly.

Summary
Those Who Slither had found the Crest-bearing Byleth before Rhea could. Warped and changed by their attempts to create sentient Beasts during the war and escaped as they scrambled in the aftermath of it, Byleth is left with little hope of living life as anything but a monster to be hunted or put on display. It isn't until a mysterious party reaches out a hand that her numbed heart starts to beat again.
An AU where Fodlan is united without Byleth (or quite as many deaths), Edelgard actually plans to rehabilitate those experimented on by TWSITD that still retain some humanity, and the Ashen Demon is a more apt description than usual.

More than anything she wanted to know who it was who had brought justice to her family, who made it a habit to bring justice to every family that had been wronged.
Those families the law couldn't help.
She still sought to put an identity to the name 'Hegemon Killer', wanted to know what sort of face hid under the veneer of shadow she saw at each of the crime scenes. She wanted to see the hands that crafted such beautiful carnage. Consistently she said she was here to catch them, consistently she said her curiosity was second to her desire to put this person behind bars.
Consistently she lied.

Summary
Byleth was one of Sothis's favored angels. She was obedient, quick to learn, and above all else, a far cry from her usually boastful vassals. Her work was carried out dutifully and with nary a misstep; she was a servant to the goddess and had been since the day she had died…it was a position she took gratefully.
Edelgard von Hresvelg complicated things.
