Although in the end, you found someone just as much of a coward as you are. He stepped into that quagmire himself, but why drag someone into it who doesn’t deserve this suffering? By justifying your actions as “protecting” him, you yourselves became the cause of his death. Now there’s no point in crying.

Summary
Grace misses humans, and when faced with the option to have another human on board, he can't pass it up. But having this other human on board proves to be difficult, he doesn't trust easily, and trying to earn his trust is a horrible, long process. Grace doesn't care how long it will take, Grace refuses to let Simon suffer alone.
