Oswald has no trouble following his heart, it seems, can probably feel it tug him in the right direction like a string tied to his pinky finger. Ed could easily do it too. Lean in, breathe him in, press their lips together like he wants (oh, how he wants). A different kind of explosion in them. A different kind of sacrifice. Ed’s mind for his heart.

“Oswald!” Ed managed to catch Os by the shoulders.
Ed had noticed the blood that was pooling out from underneath Oswald's bandage during his tantrum about the submarine. But what he hadn't noticed was the sudden fever. He thought Oswald was a bit too warm during their hug but now, holding him as his unbandaged eye glazes over, he becomes all too aware just how hot and unbearably pale he was.

The first time, he talks him into falling back asleep. The second, he calls his name. The third, he holds his hand. The fourth, he holds him close. The fifth, he kisses him all over. And slowly, together, they learn to overcome the nightmares and truly heal in the haven that they reside in now.
