Summary
Eddie had never noticed Nancy much before, except to observe that her hair was very shiny and he wished he could afford whatever she put in it. But once she was dating Steve, her profile skyrocketed. Steve Harrington had gone out with basically every girl in school, of course, but he’d never had a serious girlfriend before. Nancy Wheeler was front-page news. She was everywhere, usually with Steve right next to her, making huge goofy cow eyes and finding every possible excuse to put his big hands on her. And it was driving Eddie insane.

Summary
Steve loves it. He loves watching the band, the way they catch each other’s eyes and smile, all of them moving to the same rhythm–the one they’re creating together. He loves the steady heartbeat of the drummer, the way he bobs his head and grins as all the other musicians follow his lead. He loves the female backup singer with the long, curly red hair, dressed almost like a female Springsteen in tight black jeans and a white tank top. He’s mesmerized by Clarence Clemons, muscular arms gilded with sweat after two hours onstage but still showing no sign of slowing down, blowing his heart out into his gleaming saxophone. But most of all, he loves the Boss himself.
In the summer of 1984, Steve takes Nancy to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the Born in the USA tour. He learns something about himself along the way.

Chrissy is beginning to think Ettie has sampled too much of her own product. “I don't know what you're talking about,” she says.
Ettie huffs in exasperation. Enunciating carefully, she says, “Have you tried masturbating?”
Chrissy stares at her. “No.”

The house is packed tonight. Some of these people are creepy trauma-chasers, Eddie knows, the kind who will come up to him later at the merch table to ask what watching Chrissy die was really like, and they make his skin crawl. But some of them–a lot of them, he's pretty sure–are actual fans. People who saw the article and checked out Corroded Coffin out of morbid curiosity, maybe, but liked what they saw enough to keep coming back. People wearing actual band T-shirts that Jeff and Quentin designed. People who sing along to songs Eddie wrote.
And somewhere out there in the crowd is Eddie's actual, real-life, flesh and blood boyfriend.

Steve exhales, his eyes lowering to watch Eddie’s lips move as he speaks, and he feels too warm even though he’s just wearing a t-shirt.
“Tell me,” he says quietly, holding Eddie in place. Eddie lets out a soft sound, a weak sound, and Steve wants to hear it again. Wants to hear what other sounds Eddie makes when he’s not angry. “Tell me, Eddie.”
