Summary
It had been a long and difficult 27 years since the Hail Mary had launched. Not as terrible as it could have been, but not easy. Humanity had survived and adapted, as it always did. There had been terrible wars. There had been incredible acts of kindness. There had been massive scientific breakthroughs. And now, there were two distant blips of Petrova-light, picked up by the Deep Space Network, hurtling home. Two probes, braking hard as they hurtled toward Earth holding the secrets to its salvation. They were late, or at least, not very early, but they were here.
Grace may have made his peace with dying to save Rocky, but Rocky insists they return to Earth.

Summary
Aster Ward isn't like her family, she had no desire to touch the stars until they started dying. Her father, James Ward, a world renowned jet propulsion scientist died of a heart attack on the ISS and left Aster, a journalist, not a scientist with absolutely no one. But when the sun starts dying, she takes a job to document the project tasked with saving it, the Hail Mary. Aster doesn't expect much and is pleasantly surprised to meet Ryland Grace, molecular biologist, nerd extraordinaire and the only man on the planet who makes her want to actually save it.
When Ryland is thrust into space against his will, Aster joins despite her lack of training as a means to continue her documentation. When she's woken up to discover it's only her, Ryland and the vast vacuum of space, things get interesting. As Aster tries to get Ryland to remember her, to remember their connection and the reason she came all that way they encounter something extraordinary...someone. Now Aster, Ryland and their mysterious new alien buddy, have no time at all to save the world and as Ryland's memories return and Aster begins her documentation, things start to accelerate and relationships begin to reforge.

This is all Rocky's fault. He was stupid, stupid, stupid. How could he be so stupid and let this happen? Between the two of them, Grace was supposed to be the stupid one, not Rocky.
They were supposed to be okay, fine. Rocky and Grace saved the stars, saved Earth and Erid, saved humans and eridians. Rocky helped Grace and Grace helped Rocky. Then Grace saved Rocky. So Rocky had to save Grace.
Now they're supposed to be safe and fine.
But Grace isn't fine. Not at all. And it's all his fault.
Or, Grace accidentally comes into contact with Erid bacteria and gets sick, Rocky (understandably) panics
