“Xue-Zhuren, your number was the only saved contact on his phone.. he can’t just be left on his own.” The nurse explains awkwardly, seemingly sympathetic with someone she doesn’t even know. It appears pretty relatable to Xue Meng when he didn’t know any better.
He scans Shi Mei more, and memories flood to his mind and heart. He looked very similar to how they used to share sheets in vacations, and he gets a laughable urge to lay next to him.
“Does Xue-zhuren at least know him?” She speaks slowly and sceptically. She really wants to get rid of him.
“I do.” He says, and it feels like an admission.
“Do you… volunteer as a suggested guardian?” She nudges the paper closer,
He doesn’t think, yet doesn’t answer immediately, but rather lost in a vague sense of emptiness. His eyes flicker between her and Shi Mei, while he weighs down his ability to stomach the very thing behind his misery.
