People tell heroines to stop leaving their enemies alive, as the inevitably screw them over later on, but when I have a business selling poison and poison accessories suddenly I’m immoral. Are these girls supposed to learn how to produce their own poisons? While on the run? While imprisoned? While being held hostage when you know damn well the library they get access to has been curated to brainwash or taunt them?
These social norms are villain-centric and honestly? Anti-small businesses. I am an artisan, and villains hate it. They hate that I’m not a serf, that I own my own property. They hate the way I subvert feudalism, the way I sell their wives aphrodisiacs because after a couple hundred years their refractory period is shit. They hate the way I sell their mistresses fertility potions when they want to get pregnant and moon potions when they don’t. They hate how my ability to forage, cook, and kill allows me to evade their armies and escape abroad and build my business up again.
Most of all, they hate how their court alchemists are inferior to me, and when I find out which one of these little chits ratted on me to Alessandro I’m sending my own little message, one he won’t wake up from.
