Jayce stiffens as the monster leans down, its face mere inches from his own.
"Hmm."

"I don't think so," the monster replies. "You are different. The others who came before—yes, I remember them. Red stones burning on their flesh, all fury and brute force, their minds as blunt as the swords they carried. But you… you carry blue. A thinker’s stone. A maker’s stone. They send you, an intellect, to end me? How curious.”
The creature bends lower until it nearly brushes Jayce’s cheek.
“And pretty too,” it whispers. “Sharp mind, handsome form… the Kingdom throws pearls to cages, that much I already know, but you… you are a true waste of potential. Perhaps you belong here, with me.”
