"No," she responds, shifting. "But stars burn up eventually." Veneer smiles bittersweetly, laughing. How ironic.
"You've been listening to Ritz's show, huh?" He questions jokingly, and Velvet twitches.
"Shut up and go to sleep."

Here's my take on how Velvet and Veneer's relationship with each other changes during their time at prison! When an interviewer starving for content starts visiting Veneer for updates on how things are going, an unlikely friendship is formed.
...Somewhere along the way, Veneer has to decide between escaping and getting the life he's always wanted or being able to permanently fix his relationship with Velvet.

They had Mount Rageous eating out of the palm of their hands. Fame, fortune, and becoming a living memory for all of time were right at their fingertips-- within their grasps.
And then Veneer had a change of heart.
After Velvet and Veneer are released from prison, it becomes painfully obvious that the world has changed its view on them. The Mount Rageons, most of the Trolls, and even the Bergens are hostile towards them and distrustful of the glamorous twins. Before times get better, they are going to get worse, and Velvet and Veneer have to hold onto each other if they want to get through them-- luckily, they have a little bit of help.
