    Geta should have announced himself then, and not moved along the walls like a malicious ghost spying on the living, but he did not have it in him. His tongue felt tied, and he had a curiosity to him too which was not entirely without its shadows of a grudge held. Caracalla had made a fool of him and it didn’t matter if he had known it would happen - here he was, playing with his toys, like Geta did not matter to him at all.

    The least Geta deserved was to know what he had done it for, and he would never be quite as honest in his words as he would be if Geta would simply see him as he was.
