Summary
The week before the 2017 All-Stars Game, Ilya Rozanov is placed on IR. Ten days later, he disappears from the league entirely. Boston says nothing, and for once, a notoriously fickle league closes ranks.
Every attempt Shane makes to find him hits a wall. In one last desperate, life-altering bid to reach him, Shane comes out to the world, only to be met with Ilya’s silence.
By the time the 2020/21 season begins, Shane has nothing left but hockey and regret. He builds a dynasty, guts his life, and pins the last scraps of his hope on the Metros’ newest transfer, the dangerously hot-headed Cliff Marlow.
Stepping back into the public eye after the worst three years of his life, all Ilya wants is to find some kind of purpose. Shane is done with him, he made that much clear. Ilya isn't about to try to convince himself otherwise. He just wants to prove he still has some use left in him.
Fortunately for both of them, they're still fucking stupid for each other.

Ilya Rozanov returns from the 2017 All Stars different from how he left for them.
Then his father dies, and he takes the call in their locker room after a game, and Cliff Marleau sees more than people think.
And then Shane Hollander goes down, and Ilya Rozanov fucking loses it - not to the untrained eye, no, but Cliff Marleau has lived out of the locker next to this kid for the past seven years.
He’s also not a fucking idiot.

Summary
“How did Roz not kill you?”
Cliff frowned at his wife’s question. “What is that supposed to mean?”
Penny rolled her eyes. “Are you forgetting back in 2017? You gave Hollander a concussion and a fractured collar bone.” She then threw her hands up in the air as she continued, “I’m just saying. I love Rozy, but if he had done that to you, I would have thrown hands.”
Oh god. Oh god. That’s why he could barely look at me during and after the game. When Ilya and Shane's relationship is outed, Cliff's wife asks him a very vaild question. Leaving Cliff wondering how he can apologise. Somehow this leads to sending apology flowers to his best friend's boyfriend. Yeah that's going to go down well.

Summary
“Ilya,” Shane gasped out, like it hurt to form the word. With it came a small smattering of blood on his lip. A few extra hands were working alongside Ilya and Pike, but Ilya would not move. He had to stay, and listen, and be with Shane.
“Yes. Shaneya, I am here. What do you need to tell me?” More and more blood burbled up past Shane’s lips, which couldn’t be a good sign. How could more blood be trying to escape him? There were already two exit points, wasn’t that enough? Now he had to drown in it?
“Tell Ilya I’m sorry… I- I love him… So much. I’m sorry I left. Please. Please, I can’t die without him knowing…” Ilya couldn’t breathe behind the sob that tore out of him. He collapsed inward with the force of it. Shane was below him, begging to live so that he could tell Ilya he loved him. If anyone reacted to the two boys, Ilya didn’t notice. This whole thing could still be being live-streamed to ESPN, and Ilya wouldn’t care.
Or, Shane gets shot on the ice right after the Tuna Melt Gate. Ilya is there to save him.
