Buck couldn’t get Tommy’s words out of his mind once the man finally left his — Eddie's house. They floated through his mind as he picked through the food Tommy made him, he doesn’t even want it now. It feels tainted, and tastes like ash even if the man did work hard on it. He’s still appreciative for the food, but it doesn’t mean he feels like he can stomach it right now.
He feels called out, hollow in a way he’s been ignoring for years. With something he’s known subconsciously for a long time.
Or Tommy says that to Buck and he promptly feels used about it
