But when the offer of a promotion to DCI of MIT is handed to her, she thinks about Hastings only promoting her to DI because Steve got thrown down several flights of stairs; of Ros Huntleys condescension of only being a DC at 32; of Mark’s hateful words spat at her in one of their many arguments of “all she’s given up for a job she’s not even good at” and she finds herself accepting.

The redemption arc I wish we'd seen for Jo - one that doesn't involve betrayal, ill-conceived car chases and Kate taking temporary leave of her senses!

His eyes drift back to the window, and the dark.
They’re reflected in it pretty well. Dot, looking at his face and resting a hand on his shoulder like he did all those weeks ago and kneading the muscle there. Him, looking at the picture they make together. Their features aren’t distinct, but their silhouettes are. He wasn’t aware of how much he leans into Dot, and how much Dot shapes his stance around him. They look to be carved from the same block, neatly slotted, and he shivers as the taller figure in that reflection moves his warm hand up Steve's neck, cupping his jaw, sliding along the rasp of his stubble and turning his face back towards him.
Dot’s eyes are greener than he’d realised, before.

“I’ve got wipes in the glovebox,” the stranger - he'll call him Matt, later, learn his name in that car and how it sounds through a moan - offers. Scratches the back of his head, and offers a light shrug and wry smile. “Not exactly the Ritz, but I reckon you’ll fit in there just fine.”
“You’re lucky I’m not picky,” Steve says, and clambers into the darkened backseat.

She's playing with fire and Kate needs to tread carefully. She's pretty sure that he's seen right through her act just like she's seen right through his. It had been easier than she had thought to string him along, at least at first. He was so obvious with how he looked at her, the plaintive and loaded glances he'd shoot her way, and it was her way in. Using her looks wasn't how she usually operated but this wasn't a usual case. This was the first time she suspected a colleague, a fellow AC-12 officer. She just wasn't sure what she suspected him of, not yet and certainly not the whole of it, but nothing stacked up or made sense. He was bent, she knew that much at least.
