"I'm sorry, by the way," Booker says quietly, after a minute.
"For what?" Joe asks.
"You and Nicky," Booker says hesitantly. "Didn't mean to be the reason you two start fighting. But you're okay now, right?"
Joe has already opened his mouth to say of course, of course they are okay.
But something makes him hesitate, because then again, has he followed his own advice and worked for Nicky's forgiveness?
He's not so sure.Or; Joe talks to his family about forgiveness.

Summary
Nicolò and Yusuf have fought and killed each other so many times already. At this point, only hatred keeps them sane. While trapped under a rockfall, dying again and again next to each other, they are forced to work together to get out of this situation. This is how Yusuf discovers that Nicolò's heart is in the right place, and Nicolò discovers that Yusuf has the soul of a poet, but they both know that as soon as they are back on their feet, they will have to kill each other again.

“Then he drew a knife from his belt, and all Nicolò could think was no, not again, he didn’t want to keep doing this. He was too tired to move. But the Saracen didn’t attack. Instead, he pushed his sleeve up and cut himself, a deep slice across the muscle of his forearm. They watched it heal, skin sealing back together, the wound vanishing like a drop of blood in water.
He spoke again, his tone full of desperation, whatever the words were. Again, angrier this time, he cut. Ranted in disbelief and denial, as if he pleaded with Nicolò to explain, which Nicolò couldn’t do. Cut himself again, and again, a thicket of bleeding wounds, blood dripping down the blade, his arm. All the cuts healed, vanished.
Nicolò reached over and caught the Saracen’s wrist, stopping him. The Saracen stared, as Nicolò pried the knife from his hand, and let his wrist go.”

Historical AU set during the Fall of Carthage (2nd century BCE). When Carthaginian merchant Yusuf first met Nicolò in Rome, he thought him simply a pleasant night's distraction from the looming threat of war between their respective homelands. He did not expect to meet him again in battle outside the walls of Carthage—or, well…anything else that followed, really.

The little crabbing boat he’s looking for is not the only star on the dock; there are other boats lighting up a mulberry sky. Each ship is preparing for launch, for a prosperous season, and each ship is teeming with little ant people climbing around ropes, carrying equipment, calling to one another, sparking with emergency welds and patch jobs.
Quick! Call the Doctor is one of the smallest boats. It’s bucking on the edge of the dock, shifting in white, foaming waves, pressing against the bumpers.

Perception, Garak knew, was everything. It mattered far more than truth, however one defined that slippery concept.
For example, the perception that the room was moving around him. Spinning, endlessly. It was not the truth. There was nothing wrong with the station’s gravitational orbit. He knew this, and yet the perception of it kept him pinned to the floor.
For another example, the perception that Julian had abandoned him here.

“We’re the same age, the young Caesar and I,” Nicolò said by way of distracting Yusuf because right then, he looked sad.
“You’re way taller and better-looking than him,” Yusuf said vindictively. “That’s what you got growing up drinking Rome’s filthy water.”
“I drink Rome’s filthy water, too.” Nicolò smiled. “Though I was born in this place called Liguria, do you know it? It’s in the north.” Nicolò didn’t really know why he felt he needed to share.
“Tiberius told you?”
Nicolò nodded, bending to submerge half his face, too, seeing Yusuf from the same angle – half of his face obscured by steam and half a rippling reflection.
“Where were you born, Yusuf?” Nicolò whispered, careful with his words as if they could hurt his friend.
Yusuf closed his eyes and left Nicolò in silence for a long time, he started to fidget.
Then, “Carthage. To the south,” he said without opening his eyes.
