Robin blinked rapidly. “Uh, yeah. I don’t know.” She looked Nancy in the eyes. “I just think I’m lucky to know you is all, like this.” She smiled. “Who would’ve thought we’d get along so well… and it never would’ve happened without—” her hands went up in the air again, gesturing around them. Nancy knew what she meant. The rubble that used to be their town. The dead kids in the ground a few miles from here. The evil, pure evil, that lurked somewhere beyond and below them. Nancy would’ve never known Robin without it. Not really. But..
“Maybe we would’ve met, really met, some other way.”
Robin's lip quirked. “You think so?”
As summer turns to fall, Nancy experiments with healing her trauma by giving into what she wants. Robin, for her part, has a soothing reading voice and constantly wet hair.Series

Nancy made a face at her. “I’m a vampire, Robin, not a nun.”
Which kind of answered Robin’s question, except—
“Well you say that, but I fucked a nun once,” she blurted, then balked when Nancy’s eyes widened. “I mean—sorry. It’s just that I don’t really believe in impossible.”
If Robin didn’t know it already, she’d have guessed that Nancy had mastered the art of self-control when she sat on both of her hands to restrain herself.
“That’s…way hotter than it has any right to be,” she rasped.
OR: the one in which Nancy can’t differentiate between survival instinct and being in love when she finds herself riding out a snowstorm with Robin Buckley, her first guest in ninety nine years and maybe the closest she’ll ever get to the sun.

In the dim light Nancy has the glittering, smudgy beauty of an oil painting, shadows blurring the sharp angles of her face, eyes shimmering out of the darkness behind her. That stupid cross necklace winks against her white shirt. The whole pretty sight makes Robin’s pulse trip. Her heart stumbles right into her ribs, and yes, maybe her breath even catches in her throat a little at the flash of hunger she sees in Nancy’s gaze. It’s not like this is the first time she’s seen it, but that’s the thing about Wheeler: she never, ever gets tiresome.
Robin likes it the other way, too—soft and slow and blush-inducing for entirely different reasons. But she saw and felt, the second they fell into this back room, that Nancy wanted something else today.

It feels a little stupid coming in alone. The ticket person seems unfazed, and no one else is paying attention, but parking in a half-empty movie lot at midnight just in case Robin can sneak away is actually kind of a huge embarrassment.
C’est la vie.
Robin’s standing with her forehead pressed against the soda machine when Nancy walks in. As if she was doing something truly heinous, Robin snaps to attention at the sound of the door opening, but the brief flash of I-got-caught! panic in her eyes fades as she realizes it’s Nancy.
“Oh!” she says brightly. “It’s you again.”

“How are you comfortable like that?” Nancy asked, looking through the dark at how Robin layed perfectly still on her back, hands steepled atop her stomach.
After a few moments, Robin answered hesitantly for a second before the words started pouring out, “I’m not, I normally sleep on my side but there isn’t much space-” Nancy grabbed her hand, endlessly endeared, and turned. She pulled Robin’s arm around her waist so that she was spooning her, winding their fingers together where Robin's arm fell naturally at her stomach.
“There.” She murmured softly.
“Right. Thanks. That's perfect- I mean- not perfect just- better,” Robin choked out. Nancy could feel her heart hammering against her back.
She smiled.

Robin reaches for her. She slides a tentative hand towards her, palm up, knuckles skimming over Nancy’s thigh, the tips of her fingers twitching ever so slightly.
Nancy stares. And stares.
She wants to tell Robin, don’t offer your hand to me. If I hold it now, I might never let go.
She wants to tell herself, religion has taught you to be merciful. So be that. Let her go. Don’t take her hand when you might rip it clean off.
