Summary
Day 3: Flowers
“I promise you. I promise I’ll come back.”
He promises, George thinks wistfully. He promises such a thing- to offer George with his word on something, to uphold it. It’s as if he’s saying that he’ll give the world to him, just for him. But somewhere is the lingering thought in George's mind is that he won't come back. That the cruel war that had riddled their land will take him too, and he will be left aching and worry-worn. George shivers at the thought. Of a life without him.
“You promise?"
That you’ll come home to me?
And as if he heard those unspoken words. Dream beams at him.
“I promise. You won’t even notice that I was gone, my love.”
George lets out a wet and broken laugh at the overly romantic pet name that he associates with his beloved. Dream does so too, before pulling him back into his embrace.
They stay there for a bit. The war can wait.
“I promise I’ll be waiting.”
(or, the war au with letters and oscar wilde quotes.)

She sucks in a breath. “He ain’t coming… is he?”
After Genosha, Rogue has a conversation at Gambit's favorite dive bar.

Summary
Realizing he’s been staring, Gambit removes the cigarette from his mouth where it’s been dangling dangerously with his open-mouthed gaping and clears his throat. “Chѐre… for me?” he says, laying on the charm, hoping it’ll cover up how much just the sight of her has affected him.
“You wish,” Rogue scoffs before stepping down and approaching him. “A lady has to look her best when she goes out on the town, Remy.” She’s close enough he can see her earrings now, too, a gold hoop in each ear, glinting gently. “After all, there might be some real gentlemen at that restaurant,” she teases.
Rogue and Gambit finally get that date.

Summary
The moment they arrived and people saw Rogue in all her glory, Remy adoring and just this side of eating her alive with his gaze, it hit her without warning.
Someone asked her about her scars.
Rogue didn't hide the story - kicking dinosaurs’ asses was objectively cool - but as she told, keeping everyone's attention, she couldn't help but look at the others.
And suddenly she was very aware of how gruesome the tears in her flesh looked like, healed up or otherwise.Or:

It felt like going through the motions. Like a habit, like second nature. Like remnants of the past he was stripped of. Like burning echoes of energy that once simmered in him, just below the skin. He couldn't remember how it felt like. Still, looking at them - at her, - Death could not understand why he felt like his ribs were turning inside out.

"I chose you, by the way." Rogue interrupts before he can find his words, making him freeze as he tries to process what she's just said. "God," she snorts a laugh, shaking her head, "it sounds so dramatic when I put it like that, like we're in one of those WB shows Jubilee is obsessed with."
