Summary
Simon remembers dying.
He remembers gagging on blood, drowning in it as it fills his lungs.
He remembers screaming in his mind. The undying rage of a God that threatens to take him with her.
The implosion of the Iron Lung takes him quicker.He wakes to an earthly forest, untamed and untouched.
Ava suffers the same fate. She wakes to a junkyard, stuffed miles away from civilization.
She is completely alone. Then, of all people it could be, Simon finds her.
They survive together in the wilderness of what they assume is an afterlife. Over time, they reconcile with their past and learn to open up.
Still, there is one question burning on their minds: where are they?

What if Simon was trapped in a time loop?
“Convict! Everything alright? Is the sub okay?”
“Is this a test?” Simon asks, voice wavering. The pause hangs heavy for a moment. The depth meter drops. The SM-13 groans under the weight and pressure of the blood around it. Simon’s eyes dart from the porthole to the intercom.
“This is the first time this sub has been used, yes.” Ava says finally. “Why? Everything holding up alright? I assure you the weld is—”
“A test for me. Me." he jabs a nervous thumb against his sternum, leaning toward the speaker, pleading, as if she can see him. As if that would make any difference. “Am I being tested? Is this some C.O.I. thing? Some kind of sick rehab?”
“...if you want to see it that way. Just… finish this and you'll have your freedom.”
Simon swallows hard, turning back to the controls he's learned so well, cobwebs of fear prickling in the back of his mind. A question flits through his thoughts that he doesn't dare vocalize.
What did I do to deserve this?
