Jack Rackham did not come awake like either of his two closest associations. It was not the instantaneous transition from sleeping to wakefulness with no ill effects like Anne Bonny. Nor was it the hazy but clear transition that was so often a result of a night of alcohol, opium, and brawling that Charles Vane had adopted. No, this was a slow process interspersed with bursts of pain. Pain specifically in the region of his head, as if someone had beat him over his head with what may have very well been a piece of metal. Determined to find out who she was, she set out to find herself and along the way met the true Akatsuki and joined. She forms close bonds with the members and they become her new family. But, soon the Akatsuki are being made out to be destructive criminals, though far from the truth. It becomes a race against time to prevent war, save an innocent man from the ghost possessing his body, and to prevent their own deaths.

Eric had been double-crossing Erudite for a long time. He had been hiding his Divergent status even longer. Everything has it's end though and, one night, he is brought to the Fence. Jeanine reveals that she figured out his Divergence and she orders his execution. Eric fights and manages to escape to the outside of the Fence, injured. Jeanine makes her play against Abnegation, but with information sent out by Eric to Four and several others, she is foiled before it could even really get started. Divergents are no longer hunted and it is revealed, by going through Erudite's files, that Eric was Divergent and that Jeanine had ordered his execution. Eric, meanwhile, fled farther and farther away from the city for days until he finally collapsed in a field, where he found by initiates of the Dauntless faction of a colony attempt by the Factions several years after the Wars.
