Summary
A little girl and her baby brother were known to some in the village for having "troubled parents." Annie, though only six, had already learned to care for Andrew when no one else did. She often carried him on her hip, fed him, and hummed lullabies she'd made up herself. Their old home was small, always unkempt, and filled more with shouting than warmth.
Susannah and Maximus Fixter, who lived just a few streets away, had always kept a gentle eye on the two. When the children's parents vanished one night, leaving nothing behind but an empty house and two terrified siblings, Susie and Maxi didn't hesitate and took them in immediately. The seamstress and her husband; the handyman, had cared for them as their own ever since, and taught them what it's like to be a true family.

Summary

She isn’t really sure why this happened, truthfully. It’s not like it was a bad day or anything like that (not that there are ever any “good days” when she’s trapped in this virtual hell), and she mostly felt the same as she always did. But something inside of her, maybe the last hanging thread of her willpower, snapped.
Caine puts his arm around Pomni’s shoulders as he’s chortling about something, and something wild and rabid consumes Pomni’s head.

Summary
She is a thing of need and teeth and nothing else. Needy teeth. Needle teeth.
When a piglet is born, their needle teeth are cut from their mouths. Keeping them in would cause damage to the sow whenever the piglet nurses, those sharp black teeth unintentionally tearing the flesh of her belly raw. Cut them, clip them, grind them down, because it’s better in the long run.
Pomni’s needle teeth were never cut. They still sit in her mouth, primed for blood. Teeth-first, teeth-foremost.
Pomni is touch-starved.
She is also terrified of being touched.
