He’s known it for months. He’s known it since he found Hakuji at the bottom of a cliff without a single broken bone, since the neighbor's cat hissed at his touch, since a grieving old man screamed he was a demon. So why did it hurt?
“You're not Hakuji, are you?”
“Huh?” The seconds stretched on, each one more suffocating than the last.
“How did you…” Hakuji's voice faltered, his breath caught somewhere between his chest and throat.
“I thought I copied him perfectly…” there was a distortion in a voice he knew perfectly.

“I’ve told you, Hakuji, him just sitting there is proof enough that he’s avoiding me!” he half-shouted, half-whispered, his voice low and urgent, as if hoping Hakuji would finally agree. “He always comes at this hour— your shift— orders a monstrosity of sugar and a black coffee and then leaves after thirty minutes! But it’s been two hours!”
“You’re such a stalker, Akaza.” Hakuji snapped, sliding the last mug so he put it into the drying rack and nudging his brother sharply with his foot. “Leave the poor man alone. Now stop whining and move!”

Husk’s wings retract. The glass nearly slips, but he’s quick to catch it, before rearing back on Angel with widened eyes. His pupils are like pinpoints — like a cat, Angel thinks, before shoving the thought away and taking a casual sip of his drink.
(Husk had an inkling that Angel was a little ditzy, but not this ditzy.)
