“It helps,” Javert explained. He looked up at Valjean with heavy lidded eyes, the beginnings of a flush dusting his cheeks. For a moment Valjean's breathing halted–his heart started beating frantically in his chest.
He stared at Javert, unwilling to be the first to look away; while the other man licked his lips nervously before he continued.
“It reminds me of my place,” he mumbled, “and that is before you, Monsieur.”

A monster of a fic that turned into a series even though it was just supposed to be porn. Born between the triumvirate of a slave AU prompt, the immensely inspirational creature that is the Dallas 2014 production, and the author's endless rage regarding the endings of both Jean Valjean and Javert.
More Hugoesque symbolism, allusions, references, and discussions regarding law, justice, mercy, religion, governance and history than you can shake a stick at. Because the author loves analysis and hates academia and writing meta, so her own thoughts all come out as fic.
