Charles is hit with a sleeping curse. True love is required to break it, but a kiss just isn't enough.
A fill for the following anonmeme prompt:
Can we please have another sleeping beauty curse story, but this time with a more traditional cure, the "first fruits of love" one?
I want higher stakes, I want setup where any attempt to lift the curse if extremely dubcon. I want the most horrible mix of emotions: doubts, angst, guilt, but also care, overwhelming tenderness and love, and support. Post-curse care, too.
It's better if the one afflicted is Charles. Post-confession, but pre-relationship. Definitely before he figures anything out, ideally when he himself is still a bit unsure about the romantic potential of their relationship.
Please no flippant "just fuck him" Crystal. She's better than that.
Please no "suddenly realised he've been in love for the past 30 years" Charles. Let him for once be not there yet, and let the mess with the curse to make everything even more confusing. -

I wanted to write about Jenny and the Night Nurse comiserating over how their lives are turned upside down by a bunch of reckless teenagers. Then my brain wanted context for how they got there.

Things settled into a new kind of normal that was also really fucking weird and Jenny was slowly becoming okay with it. She had to admit, having help in the store wasn't bad. If she got sick of dealing with people, she would put Crystal up front to do the talking bits while she chopped and sliced and cut away at meat in the back. Charles and Edwin learned to knock on the cupboard door when they came through the mirror so there were no heart attacks or thrown knives. Crystal sometimes had to disappear for a case, but Jenny was used to running a store by herself anyway. Slowly, she gained a few regular customers that weren't all that bad. There was one woman she suspected of being a witch but as long as she wasn't looking to harm the dead boys and/or blow up the shop, Jenny was content to sell her the weird off-cuts, blood and offal she asked for without question.
And then that red-haired woman showed up in a burst of fucking fire.

You can't blame Charles for his brain turning to mush— really, you can't. It's not his fault.
If anything, it's Edwin's. Edwin, who is currently stood at case board, hands clasped behind his back. Charles can't focus on much of anything other than his outfit, though.
It's nothing too different from his usual clothes. He dawns a light blue sweater, the collar of his stark white shirt peeking out. His knickerbockers are a light brown with matching brown socks up to his calves. Edwin is wearing his usual boots, and his hair seems all prim and proper like usual but Charles can't focus on that.
All he can focus on is the outfit.
This would be insignificant to Charles, if it were anyone but Edwin. Hell, Crystal and Niko changed their clothes every day and he didn't go around ogling them. He'd get a proper smack upside the head if he did that, but that's besides the point.
It's because this is Edwin. Edwin, who doesn't like change. Edwin, who had only ever changed his look because of—

Summary
In life, Charles had developed a system of tricks and cheats to get all the touch he needed without arousing suspicion. It had worked very well, and he’d been proud of himself for working it out. Then he’d gone and died, and the only person he could feel anymore wasn’t big on touch. 35 years on, he finally figures out Edwin’s trick, and decides to do some testing to make sure he’s got it right.
Or, five times Charles gets hurt so Edwin will touch him, plus one time he just asks like a normal person.
Or-or, five times Charles puts himself in Situations and Edwin gently takes him back out, plus one time Edwin very gently (and consensually) puts him in a Situation they both very much enjoy.

"The spell forces honesty out of the afflicted target," Edwin says promptly. "I seem to be compelled to answer any question, as well as unable to lie when answering."
There's a brief silence while everyone takes that in - including Edwin, who immediately looks down at the floor, lips pressed tightly together.
"So this is your actual nightmare," Crystal deadpans. "Great."
After their near-miss in the Tall Forest, Charles feels that he and Edwin are finally getting back to normal - until the Cat King's meddling shows him just how much his best mate has been keeping from him. With the cat's magic forcing Edwin to tell the truth, Charles must help him navigate not only troubling questions and unwilling answers, but their own partnership and the secrets between them that threaten to change everything.
