“Sweet Pea.” Betty breathes his name like a prayer.
His gaze snaps to hers instantly. The man seems to have trouble burying his surprise. Whether it’s due to her appearance, the girl in her arms, her tone, or her recollection of him she’s unsure.
Sweet Pea crosses his arms as he rests his elbows on the table. “Betty Cooper.”
There’s something warm about the way he says her name. Almost like there’s a sliver of fondness in his tone. She has no time to dissect it. It’s getting late and if she does not want her daughter to sleep in the backseat of the car overnight she needs to explain. Anxiety spools deep in her chest. As much as she believes in their character, it has been years. She has no real understanding of their loyalty or ethics at this point. All she can do is take the leap and hope they won't throw her out.
“I need your help.”
