“He’s coming to Delfeur with us and—and he’s staying in our wing at Marlas. And if we have to travel to Ios for any reason, we’re taking him with us, I don’t care if he makes a fuss about leaving Vere. I just got him back, I can’t—he needs me.”
“Laurent,” Damen says. The tone of his voice coaxes a sob from Laurent’s throat. “You won’t lose him again. I promise.”
Laurent returns to Arles for the first time since his uncle's execution. It doesn't go as planned.
