Summary
Ianis Cotto is a sorceror barely in control of his magic at the best of times, and so finding himself leading a dysfunctional band of adventurers on a quest to save the Sword Coast - and themselves - from mind flayers is not something he ever saw himself doing. But responsibilities must, and at least he has Astarion, the vampire he's fallen head-over-heels for at his side. Now if only he could figure out why he's started to feel nauseous in the mornings...
Astarion Ancunin has gone from the proverbial frying pan into the fire. He's finally free from his sadistic master's control and able to walk in the sun for the first time in 200 years... but it came at the cost of being infected with a parasite that will turn him into a different kind of monster if they can't get it removed. Not to mention the fact that, despite his best efforts, he's managed to catch feelings for the distractingly-pretty but clumsy sorceror who seems Hellsbent on getting himself killed while trying to save the world. All he needs to do is not let Ianis know how much he's been lying to him, and not let things get any more complicated than they already are.

Summary
Asher Mulvaney is there to kill someone and nothing else, because that's what he's good at. What he's not good at is dealing with the unexpected, which is why he's thrown off-balance by the arrival of another young man on the scene, who's apparently there for the same reasons. He knows he should just tell James to leave and never look back, but something about him fascinates him, and Asher doesn't want to let him go.
James Walker is there because his father had a list of names hidden away, and James is trying to find out which, if any of them, were responsible for his father's murder. He meets an unlikely saviour in the other young man who's there to kill the same man he is. He knows he should be scared for his life and just walk away before things get even worse for him, but something about the murderer he's just met captivates him, and James can't leave and forget him.
