Summary：新共和国成立后，尽管少数清醒的人都心怀疑虑，但为了鼓励仍然在抵抗的帝国残余势力主动投降，减少不必要的战争损失，新共政府在绝地武士卢克·天行者的担保下给予了被招安的达斯·维达众多减刑优待以及医疗帮助；维达也积极响应，一时间促使众多中外环星区主动承认并加入了新共政府。但是不久之后，清醒者们的忧虑果然应验，在利用新共的帮助恢复元气之后，维达本性暴露，袭击了监护其的绝地武士，并逃之夭夭。不久后，一支神秘的帝国舰队忽然出现在银河视野中，一举收回了众多原本已归降共和国的星区，并迅速以第二帝国之名冉冉崛起。
