Ages before the Great Battle, the CLans' truly greatest battle yet is unfolding. RiverClan has turned against all the others, and ThunderClan is on the brink of extinction. ShadowClan fights its own war with an unseen enemy, while WindClan is slowly but surely being torn to pieces from the inside out. In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, an unwelcome kitten is born. But with a twisted foreleg, she will never acquire the grace nor the agility WindClan so highly prizes. And so, segregated amongst her own Clanmates for something that never took place, Lastkit carries scars and a curious burden from a young age.

After a minute, there’s the noise of a lock being fumbled with, and then the door opens and there’s Peter, looking like he’s just rolled out of bed, his hair a mess of untamed curls. He blinks groggily at Tony for a moment, frowning. Then his face goes very, very white.

Peter slams the door shut so hard one of the hinges comes loose from the wall.

There was a kid in his lab.
This would not be abnormal if not for One: The Kid was not wearing a badge, Two: The Kid was in a lab you had to swipe your badge to get into, a lab in which Shayne himself had never seen The Kid in before, and Three: The Kid seemed right at home shuffling through chemicals and was currently elbow deep in a ventilated cabinet full of volatile organic compounds. This meant one of two things.
One: The Kid was a highly skilled thief who managed to not only get past security in the lobby and make their way up to the 35th floor without tripping any alarms or caught by any number of personnel, but also managed to get past a very, very good security system to get into a random chemical lab to steal what appeared to be carbon tetrachloride, or-
Two: The Kid was permitted to be in the building and allowed to walk into any room without a badge.
Shayne was leaning toward the first option, personally, given the absolute and total unlikelihood of the second.
