It’s become an unfortunate habit. He never meant to follow Ned, it just kinda happened. Peter knew it was wrong, he felt dirty every time he did it. But Peter has learned very well that knowing is different from doing.

Peter regretted more and more that day he followed Ned to his housewarming party. The disgusting spider in his head would never shut up about him, wondering where he was, what he was doing, if he was safe. And eventually he got tired of the headaches, the constant buzzing of where is Ned; and for a long time he pretended that he hated following Ned.
That he was just doing this so the spider would shut up, so the headaches would stop, but somewhere along the line he lost where the spider demanded it and where he began to crave it.
