Summary
In 2008, following the premiere of "The Lazarus Bowl," former FBI agent and current full-time stay-at-home dad Fox Mulder runs into his old arch-nemesis, the dashing and wayward Hollywood writer Hank Moody. The two men, each with pasts in sharp contrast to their current lives, get into a barroom brawl, fistfight a pretentious Hollywood director and summon an Eldritch God known only as Lomack.

Summary
In the first year of their partnership, Mulder & Scully established the Rules, allowing them to engage in more-than-partnerly activities in times of need, with no strings attached. After 4 years of working together, they are facing challenges that make their relationship rocky, and cause them to reassess this arrangement
This story is now complete, with a happy ending, as promised.This work is the first part of a larger work, which will be fairly canon compliant/adjacent until it isn't. I also play with the order in which some episodes appear. If CC can RET CON, so can we. Not betaed, all mistakes are my own.

Scully is less than thrilled to discover that Mulder has neglected to mention Diana Fowley's involvement in their investigation of Jeffrey Spender's disappearance. Their subsequent argument leads Mulder to strike out on his own, with the usual disastrous results. But when Scully is abducted and Cassandra Spender makes an unexpected return, Mulder must confront what truly matters most.

“Mulder pauses a beat and then resumes, as if the formalities, the celebrations and the other guests are all brief if not unwelcome interruptions to an ongoing, years-long conversation. He doesn't ask her to dance, he doesn't gaze at her meaningfully, and he doesn't push her knowingly towards the bouquet toss. Instead, they lean, shoulder to shoulder, against the bar, while he asks for her views on some anatomical issues pertaining to lycanthropy.”
