Erwin left the police force due to a major work-related incident that caused him to turn in his badge for good. At the prompting of his therapist, he decided to open a pottery store and teach classes as a way to change gears and turn his hobby into a career. Not everyone in his life fully understood his change of heart, but he doesn't mind, because above all else, he is happy for the first time in a long time.
