“Oh. Em. Gee. Is that the guy you’re always telling me about?” Bokuto exclaims as he peers over Kuroo’s shoulder.
“Um… yeah! I don’t know why he’d be calling me though. Give me a second?”
Bokuto, not taking the cue that Kuroo meant he wanted privacy, still stood next to him, “Yeah, no problem dude!”
Kuroo just snickered and answered the phone. He doesn’t have the time to push a greeting from his mouth before Akaashi is speaking.
“Kuroo? Oh thank god!” Akaashi says quietly, out of breath, “I can’t call the police, the number’s all backed up. I didn’t know who else to call.”
“The police? Why would you need to call the police?” Kuroo coaxed, worry evident in his voice.
Akaashi continued to babble, “There’s a man outside me and Kenma’s apartment, I think he’s crazy or something. One of those gang members that’s been attacking people today or- I don’t know. But he’s banging on the door and like- growling? I don’t know how to explain it. And there’s something else.”
Akaashi paused and Kuroo held his breath, “He’s all bloody. He looks… wrong.”

“My name,” the Chuunin’s cheeks were pinked, his mouth crooked to the side. “I apologize for taking him without any warning, but I was just – I delivered paperwork for Sandaime-sama, the other week, and I found him crying.” He hugged Naruto, setting the book down. “There were no aides around, no staff members on hand, and he was crying silently.” Umino turned his head, his eyes closing as he pressed his mouth to Naruto’s temple. It was soft and fond, parental, and Kakashi’s heart thudded. “Children do not cry silently unless they know there is no attention coming, Hatake-san.”
He had done that, once upon a time. After his father’s burial, when there had been no one to hear him. No one to listen.
