Even he knew that some things were too important to joke about. “I want to finally feel like I have some control.” He couldn't hold her gaze – it was too raw, too real, too much. “I need to know I’m not worthless,” he whispered.
“You’ve never been worthless,” she said with a surprising amount of fervor. “I’ll always need you with me.” She stretched up on her toes for a kiss, but she didn’t close the final distance between them. “And if you want control, you can have it with me.”
