"Roller derby?” Julia asks for the third time in a matter of forty seconds, like she still needs clarification.
“Yes,” Sam replies, nodding, the flyer still sitting on the coffee table between them, girls in skates, fishnets, and helmets plastered all over it.
“Us?” The pitch of Julia’s voice raises higher than Sam has ever heard it. It doesn’t discourage her.
She folds her arms in front of her chest and stares down at her friend, who’s still looking at her like she’s just grown a second head. “Yes, us.”

Alex’s hands are all wound up in Sam’s hair, her heels hooked around her thighs, holding her there as best as she can. There's a heat pooling deep inside her that feels raw, primal. It burns and burns and burns, makes her feel like she’s going to melt from the inside. The slickness between her thighs does nothing to quell that theory.
