Summary
For a godlike being that watches over the humans of Earth every day, the Narrator sure doesn’t understand them and their ways. And when the Great War finally comes to an end, he decides he wants to get to the bottom of why humans act the way they do.
So, after striking a deal with his fellow deity, the Curator, the two decide to travel to Earth together and live among humanity for a while, under one condition: they are not to get attached to any human or aspect of human life. But when the Narrator meets Stanley, a mute former soldier who fought in the Great War, one fateful day six years after first coming to Earth, he begins to find that this condition is getting harder and harder to keep. And with the Curator watching his every move, he has to find a way to keep their blossoming friendship a secret.
But the Curator is hiding something, too, something about a woman she meets named Mariella. And as the two deities try to assimilate into human life in the roaring 1920s, they’ll have to make a choice that will determine their duties — and change their lives — forever.

Summary
PERMANENTLY DISCONTINUED FIC!!!!! ⚠
The Narrator kept himself well away from Stanley, thank you very much.
It was an intentional design, being right by the lounge room, which the idiotic man almost never gives a second glance no matter the occasion.
He prided himself on being alone for the entire time, left in his separate monitor room, narrating what he does best: Stanley being stupid. Stanley being alone. Stanley being hopeless, and no matter how many snarky, sarcastic remarks that get thrown around, no matter how cruel either could be, they do *need* each other.
The Narrator just likes to believe Stanley hasn't had this realization yet.
However, the one play where Stanley decides to go through the lounge room is also the play where the very entrance to the Narrators office is a bit obvious. Right beside the soda machine, which, by the way, does not work.
Stanley isn't as stupid and helpless as he seems, nor is he unable to realize their situations. He still gets lonely though. Curse human nature.
