范闲一向不大喜欢秋天。春为伊始夏为顶，冬虽是死同是生，秋却为每况愈下，苟延残喘，是残缺的蝴蝶尸体，腐烂的老遒盘枝。夜深湿露重，荒凉星光穿过回环屋廊，静静覆盖在他自己制作的加湿器上。桌前摆着一坛酒，两个瓷杯，他把玩着一把木弩，时不时腾出手，给自己满上一碗酒，饮尽后将弩箭对准院子里的山水竹林虚瞄，反复数次。一只猫跳到墙头上，凄厉地叫了一声。露水从竹叶上坠落，轻轻一声响。他忽然扣动扳机，一只小箭破空而出，星光下反射出冰冷的光。
