Summary
Monsters and ghouls of every age,
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?Far beyond the graveyard and its renowned Spiral Hill, the Woods prevail. There are no animals to be found there, not one sign of life but for the shifting of the mist and gentle caress of the wind.
Neil has lived in Halloween Town for as long as he can remember, though memory is a fickle thing.
Since his mother, Mary Finkelstein, died two years ago, he hasn't been as good at following her orders as he used to be.
He's made friends. He's not sure how it happened, really - it feels like he just woke up one day with his life suddenly entangled with a whole group of people he hadn't noticed getting slowly closer. He's also taken the habit of looking at the Woods.
There's something calling to him. He can hear them in the wind, the whispers in a hundred incoherent tongues. They say crossing the threshold is always the most difficult part.

Summary
Painting is everything for Neil. It’s what’s kept him going while he was on the run, and it’s what pays for his flat and his food nowadays. So when the man who made this dream a reality asks him to paint a mural for his shopfront, Neil is more than happy to say yes - and that’s before he realised that Wymack actually intended to pay him.
Neil gets more than he bargained for, however, when a normal day of work ends up accidentally involving one angry, blond Minyard with a taste for expensive shirts.

Summary
The car Eddie bought smells like stale cigarettes and mildew, and the seat creaks ominously when Buck heaves himself gingerly into it. He watches Eddie limp around to the driver's side and ease himself behind the wheel with the kind of studied caution that suggests he's in a lot more pain than he's letting on. The engine coughs as it turns over, but it starts. Buck watches through the rearview mirror as Los Nietos fades into the distance with a sense of relief that feels so enormous he could choke on it.
Or: Buck, and Eddie, and a ten hour drive home.

Summary
“Did you hear about the wolf attack on the full moon two years ago? That hiker found with his arm ripped to pieces,” Chimney says, an obvious ploy to cheer Buck up. It says a lot about Buck or a lot about Chimney that violent tragedy is meant to cheer Buck up. “Has anybody checked that guy to make sure he doesn’t go awoooo during his special time of the month?”
Eddie can already tell it’s not going to work, so he reaches across the gap between their seats to clasp a hand to Buck’s shoulder, his thumb close but not quite touching the vulnerable skin of his neck. If he presses hard enough, he can almost make himself feel the phantom ropes of raised skin from when Buck was left with a jagged lightning scar across his shoulder, matching yet way cooler than Eddie’s sad excuse for bullet dug and fang mauled shoulder scars. It has the desired effect, and he relaxes under the weight of Eddie’s hand.
“There are no wolves in Southern California,” Buck states, another bit of trivia. He just doesn’t know it’s a lie.
[Or Eddie has enough on his plate this summer – a newly empty nest, a terrible new captain, and a new mustache – without adding a new werewolf to the mix.]
